It has an implicit scanner, and that makes it a printer as well. You can output and duplicate any archive from even a little card to an A4 estimated sheet. It isn’t one of those overwhelming obligation photocopying machines you find in stationery shops. It handles sheets up to A4 estimate serenely.
Whether you have to examine a business card, a record or a photograph, it handles the greater part of that. Furthermore, how about we not overlook that it prints as well.

The Pros of HP LaserJet M1005
This is a laser printer, don’t think little of it.
It gives the best quality yield you can envision from a grayscale printer, and when you look at a page of content printed by an inkjet printer to this, you’ll understand why individuals say laser printers are the best.
The prints don’t smear like when you touch an inkjet print.
They stay useful for long. In the event that you have chosen a decent picture that isn’t pixelated, you can see that laser printers really give okay yield.
What’s more, that is the reason these printers are costly when contrasted with inkjets.
Show and Controls
The printer has a little show at the upper right, alongside numerous catches. These catches permit you to effectively change the no. of duplicates, splendor, and different settings.
You don’t need to sit replicating the same page 10 times in the event that you need 10 duplicates. Simply press the catch, and you’re finished.
You get the 10 duplicates in a jiffy. Furthermore, that is the thing that conveys us to the following point.

Functionality of HP LaserJet M1005
The printer’s got lots of functions. More than you’ll ever use. You can specify the no. of copies, brightness and set the defaults for these parameters.
That makes it easy to print at brightness level 6 or so every time. You can make a specific change only for one load, for example you can print 4 copies only for the current load.
When you power up the printer again, it goes back to 1 copy.
Design and Outline
The printer looks good, and has everything positioned correctly, with nothing as an obstruction. Build quality is good too, and it doesn’t look like it will wear off over time.
On the sides, you have the HP logo. On the front, you have the sheet input tray and the output area thing.
The scanner is placed at the top, and you can easily place a document there and scan it, with the copies coming down below.
Even the LCD display and the buttons are placed on top. On the back, you have the USB and power ports.
The printer comes with a software CD that makes it easy to print, scan and copy. You don’t need to look around for the driver on the internet.
Just install the software, and you get all the required utilities for printing and scanning.
The scanning software has a neat and nice user interface, which makes it easy to scan and set parameters such as DPI, position, brightness, contrast and others.
It even asks you whether you have another page to scan after the current scan is complete.
Though this is a monochrome printer, it can scan in color to your PC. Just open the software, place the document in the scanner, and hit ‘Scan’. You’ll get the color output on your monitor in a few seconds.

The Cons of HP LaserJet M1005
That’s the main downside to these printers. This is a little old model, so you can get it for around Rs. 11,000 – 12,000.
If you are on a budget, then forget about this printer. You can check out other models, especially the P1007 which I’m reviewing next week.
It is just a printer, and is enough for household use. But, if you have a small office, I would recommend this model, as it is one of the ‘cheaper’ options available in the MFP category.
All printers require either ink or toner cartridges to function. Ink cartridges are the cheaper of the 2, and give a lower yield.
Toner cartridges are really expensive, and each original HP cartridge can cost upto 4,000. You get one with the printer, which yields about 1,500-2,000 pages.
Later on, you need to get a toner cartridge for the next 3-4,000 pages.
They are really expensive, and you don’t know when HP may stop manufacturing them, though you can buy cartridges from other companies that are compatible with this printer.
They are usually cheaper but give less yield and the print quality reduces. So, the HP cartridges are the ones I recommend, and you need to make a big investment now and then if you print lots of pages.
If you have got lots of computers, then this printer won’t be a proper option for you. There is no Ethernet connectivity (or Wireless), just a USB connection.
You can use it with one computer, but if you require printing from many computers, you need to keep the main PC on and share the printer connection.
That is time-consuming and a waste of money. So, this printer is suitable only if you have a single PC.
You will always require a colour printer, so you need to consider buying an inkjet printer (cheaper option) or a colour laser printer (those are very expensive) if you print lots of statistical graphs, pictures, photos and other documents that have stuff with colours other than black and white.
The printer prints 14 sheets per minute, which can be a little slow if you need to print lots of sheets every day.
But for the average user, that’s enough. I don’t think you will print 14 sheets every minute continuously for an hour or so.
The printer is not, and I say it again, NOT PORTABLE. It is a little heavy, and you can’t keep carrying it around every day and changing its position. That would be just a waste of time.
So, on the outset, if you can afford this printer and the maintenance costs associated with it, I would say go for it.
